On August 8th our Parish lost one of our most influential and special members when Deacon Donald Berkey was called back to our Lord. Deacon Don who had been Ordained in 1997 and would have celebrated 25 years as a Deacon in September, truly lived the calling of a Deacon. Even before his Ordination he was very active in the Parish. Deacon Don was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was a Grand Knight of our Parish Council. He served our Parish in so many ways, not the least he was our Pastoral associate. He helped to prepare Parishioners for the Sacraments through Baptism Catechesis, Pre Cana, First Eucharist, Confirmation preparation and with RCIA. He influenced generations of parishioners through Baptisms, Weddings, visiting and helping the REP program, Hospital visits, and serving at funerals and of course his wonderful heartfelt homilies. Deacon Don had a heart of gold, and he would go out of his way to help anyone and everyone in need. He helped run the St Anthony food pantry prior to the being instrumental in the forming of our St Vincent De Paul Society here at St Anthony. He truly lived the Deacon's role of being Ordained for service. His sense of welcoming to everyone was special and unique. Deacon Don’s warm sense of humor and smile will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley who passed away last October. We know they are together smiling down on all of us and interceding for our Parish. Our Prayers go out to all of his friends and family. Our Parish is truly lessened by his passing. The arrangements are as follows: Visitation ( Lie in state) St. Anthony Church Thursday Aug 11th 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM Service: Funeral Mass Friday Aug 12th 10:00 AM
